Ah...penny has dropped (26a). Never knew that in that context the plural kept its "f" rather than changing to "v", but Chambers says that is the case. Live and learn. Thanks again Jono.

My biggest issue with this is 11a. I'm not sure the clue really does explain the answer unless I am having a mental block.

Works fine for me. Totally descriptive.

I don't think 11a is a great clue, but upon reflection it does work IMO.
I wrote it in while solving, with assistance of a couple of crossers. Probably needed the crossers.

I think I'm missing it somewhere. But I got it straight away so it's doing something right.

I think it’s simply (!) a cryptic def, Rocky. A band will be described as this if they are only in the charts once.

I thought of it as a play on “off the charts” which normally means exceptionally good, but here means less so….

I have a slightly different take on it and think it's a sort of double cryptic/humorous definition. First is because it's a 'one off' then the band is going to be, for the most part, 'off the charts' as in not in them, and secondly, as Jono said, because it's a great song and was successful it is 'off the charts'.

I think my problem was (and I have made peace with it now) I was thinking about the song but of course it refers to the artist. It makes a bit more sense then.
