What kind of clue is 1a?

I have the 3rd letter as a result of managing to solve 2d.

It’s a construction which parses as 5,1,4.
The 5 comes from a six letter word in the clue minus one letter.

Still chuckling at 12 ….

It’s an anagram of parts where “remastered” is the anagram indicator. The definition is the first three words.

Is there an incorrect spelling in the second word of the answer to 26a? Not sure how that one parses, so I may be trying to make a wrong answer fit, but I can't see what else it could be...I have ?H?L? / L?F?S.

Steve, your H is wrong in the first word.

[ re the Quiptic, agree it’s on the tough side, but perhaps more fun when you spot that there’s a theme (which is unusual in a Quiptic I think).
I admit I only saw it when Kite posted that there was one. ]
