Riversk, 23a wordplay relies on a homophone - How you would have to say 'oysters', to sound like things that can lift you up. The reverse of a Cockney pronunciation.

All done now so many thanks to those who assisted. A nice puzzle with an attractive theme. About my comfort level so thanks Toffee.

Yes, satisfying puzzle. Thanks, Toffee. I liked the way a seemingly random walk across the grid turned out to have meaning. Still not sure about the parsing of 9a but I can live with that.

Managed to complete most of this one on scratch paper and my phone which is a relief because I was away on vacation with no printer until last night. Wrapped up the endgame when I got home and had a very enjoyable time with unwrapping the last couple layers.

Thanks for this one Toffee!

9A - there are two synonyms for the first two words with the difference being an unchecked letter, so needs wordplay to disambiguate.

The correct one isn’t a palindrome; the abbreviation for prince then shortened, reversed word for piercing.

Thanks, Hotelwhiskey. Sadly, I didn't see your response before posting my solution, complete with palindrome. So that's my second fluff this year. Ne'er mind.

If anyone’s still around, I did this one on holiday without too much difficulty but I can’t crack the wordplay for 2d Preparing to drive, not half making sure. Def is clear, and I know what else happens, but just can’t see that last bit. If anyone can give me a nudge it would be much appreciated. Else, nice crisp puzzle — thanks Toffee.

Mooncow, in 2d., the entry is half of a longer word.

Is it clear to everyone else whether we should be drawing a closed loop (to complete the image) or an unclosed loop (to stop after the last letter)?

Definitely an unclosed loop.
