Characteristic example of new Everyman. And that consistency is a feather in the cap of the setter. COD: 25a

Good day. Noisy air traffic woke me at 3 am. Am near Birmingham airport, I thought take off and landing was not allowed in the small hours.

Anyway, grumpiness avoided by a pleasing Everyman although your CoD at 25a eludes me.

I have...

? A ? D ? I ? E

A hint would be welcome.

I think your last letter is wrong. If so, 25A clue is multiple definitions.

Thanks alohaned, got it now and a corrected 16d which I like.

Not heard of a cuban before. Not sure I'll try one!

Morning all. I sailed through this until I got to 25a. Having solved it, I think, for 16d I then have *h*t*h*s. Is that right? If so the only word that seems to fit the letters doesn’t really fit the clue? I can see it is a cover but where does axes come in to it? A better answer IMO would make 22a end in an a but that cannot be right as the homophone in 22a is pretty clear. Anyway apart from that little 24a I loved it. Especially the rhyming pair. Have a great Sunday.

Ah I see that while I was typing my earlier note you posted that 16d has been corrected which may solve my difficulty with it.

Unless you just meant you had corrected your 16d answer yevrah. Sorry it is still a bit early in the morning, I am not totally with it yet!
