The pairing this week appears to be two word endings which form an association.

I’m also at a loss with 2d. Perhaps we’ll get a correction later.

Here is the intended clue for 2d. It is printed in the “accessible version” and the pdf has disappeared so I suspect they will be reposting it.

‘Animal star sign.’ ‘Chameleon?’ ‘Not entirely.’ (3)

Thanks for that Jono:-)

Incidentally, does anyone know how the accessible version works: There's a line number followed by letters such as BDFHJ... etc and then clue 'numbers' like 10A, 13M and so on?

The blank letters tell you where the blocked cells are in the grid. So in line one for example the only blocked cell is 9 and that corresponds to the letter I.
Then 5a starts at the position of J so is written as 5J.

I’m not entirely sure who this is intended for though…

Thanks Jono! I've been thinking for the last hour that there might be a way to make the italicised 'entirely' work - something to do with a homophone, stressing the last syllable, then an exclamation - so it's a bit of a disappointment to learn it's just the Grauniad being the Grauniad.

Got it, thanks Jono.

Like you though, I'm struggling to see who this would benefit!

I was baffled by the earlier comments on 2d as there was nothing wrong with the version I was doing. What was the original "clue"?

Some rather loose definitions - 26a and 19d, and "postpone" in15a.

5a must qualify as one of the feeblest clues ever!

Chris, I’m with you on 5a.

The early version of 2d simply read “entirely
