Thanks, people!

(As soon as I read that the first G is wrong, it was clear that AG is not how 13D begins and the correct word immediately led to the answer to 13A.) Did not need or want any more hinting.

By the way, I agree with anyone who views 21D as the clue of the week.

Oh! *wider*, not *more* love interest.

Well at least I know I got that one correct. I had abandoned it yesterday.

Thanks Yevrah and Jono. Just got 20a Also annoying is the use of "terrific" .... really?

Have only been attempting Everyman this year. Didn't have time for cryptic over the last 30yrs. But I'd say this is the worst I've seen.

I think I must have 1a wrong, as I'm stuck on 3,4 & 5.

I'm presuming 1a is a clumsy word, starting with the seafood. Giving me: m,n & s respectively.

Hi Fernie, you have the correct starting letters
in 3d the first word should be one's, with an apostrophe
4d, describing means around
5d is two straightforward synonyms, 3 and 4 letters

Thanks Geting, I now have 5d through cryptic parsing. But it doesn't fit the definition. It's probably why I can't get on with this setter this week. The definition appears to be an adjective or adverb, but the answer is a noun (or brand, even).

I've still got 11 unsolved clues to go. eg 15 has a straightforward definition, but it won't fit a straightforward anagram. I've tried a 1,6 parse, but a letter is wrong.

Giving up as a bad job.

Hi Fernie, don't give up
You're right, 15a is 1 and 6. It could be that your second letter in 13d is wrong i it is a G
And 5d is a noun, it's true, but it is also an affectionate term for a friend, as is the definition in the clue although it looks like an adjective

No, mine was Evident ly starting correctly but parsing incorrectly. Of course the Romans used to replace U's with V's. 🙃

15a - for the second part, think of what two companies do when they become one
3d - the definition is the first four words - the answer is the last word in the title of a classic of American literature (pbl 1960)
4d def is first 2 words - a 2-letter abbreviation for number followed by a famous gallery and then a roman numeral for 500
