sorry, I have been finding this annoying. I have no idea what is going on with 21d _ O _ _, and that crosses with 26a _ N _E_ T _ _ _ S : I can imagine loads of words that could fit 26 and 21 is no help.

The rest was OK but nothing to shout about. I gather some on the G comments page are unhappy with 25a but I can recall it being used back in the day, as in "what's on the other ....?"

jvector, those are exactly the 2 clues that threw me. I left it unfinished.
Perhaps will look at it again this evening (US), but doubt I'll get 21 until I see the crosser from 26.

I have to wonder whether "Everyman" has a purpose any more, given the Quiptic move to Monday and the debut of the "Quick Cryptic". Maybe we should just view Everyman as a Sunday Cryptic...

I think 21d is a desert. Which, if you mispronounce its name slightly by making the end letter long rather than short, will mean you double your dating options….
I agree this one was no fun.

I got 21 before 26. It’s quite Pauline, I think. Definition is the last two words, and it’s a geographical area.

Yes, bowergirl. The cryptic part is 2,2

rogissimo@15:

Thanks, 21 is in fact an excellent clue! I guessed the answer immediately based on the letter 2 crosser, but was too thick to see the witty parsing.

Rather, I saw the answer via definition but was unable to crack the wordplay.

Hi all. A bit late to the party but I really enjoyed this Everyman. Totally stuck though on the last two - 18D & 24A. Hints welcome.
19 & 21 made me laugh.

Hi Barry,
I enjoyed it too. 18d is a bit Yoda-ish in that around North you need to put two letters for quiet and a four letter word for presently to give a river.
24a is a double definition, it’s “hot” as stolen property might be.
