My final grid appears to be just a random selection of letters (first letter S and last one E). Others have admired the endgame - so have I misinterpreted the two instructions? Or is there a way of marvelling at the cleverness of the final grid?

The numerical solution was pretty straightforward. The transformation I'm not so sure about. Following the two messages leads to a grid of letters with just a few words and mostly hash. If that's the final grid it doesn't look resolved to me. Tried other contrived transformations but no satisfactory outcome.

I can't make any 25a of it either.

I think every entry of the final grid is a word, but some may be on the obscure side.

Hmmmm. Some very obscure, and some certainly not in my dictionary (Chambers). I feel a bit cheated that I spent too long looking for something which I would have found more satisfying.
