I have a filled grid, got the message, but when I implement it nothing coherent emerges - although I agree with Cockie, and possibly lots of 6d. Is that it? I was hoping for a more interesting finale

Hard not to spoil but you should be left with something coherent just in a different way to what you were expecting perhaps

Yes, I see now what the significance of the final grid is. Interesting that the initial grid is completely missing one digit! ( I don't think that's giving too much away?)

Aren't there two digits missing actually?

Am I right in thinking that b and J are less than 100?

I don't think it's giving too much away to say that if b+J is 2 digits per 23ac (I.e. 9

Sorry, it didn't like my less than signs.

From 24ac, b+J is 2 digits, I.e. less than 100 and greater than 9. Since b and J are both greater than 1, b and J must both be less than 99.

The numerical part was fine but the final grid is rather unsatisfactory. Some of it doesn't make sense.

captaincoma, the final grid makes complete sense and is entirely coherent. Perhaps you need to re-check your solution?
