Indeed they can, although "look over ..." treads a fine line:-)

Cheers Brendan - clearly I haven't fully interpreted the business about "two letters per cell" yet.

Trialnerra,

Sincere apologies, I got my East and West mixed up!!

"question regarding..." and "look over hilltops..." do intersect but in the NE not NW as I said in my previous post, with the "look over ..." treading the fine line.

No doubt my 'senior moment' has caused you hours of futile head scratching and for that I am truly sorry.

Seriously? I don't see how the 9-letter word can start in the NE since none of the words that could go in 5a start with the same letter as the 9-letter word, or have the appropriate letter at the 5th light. Or is that what the directions are hinting at...

Trialnerra,

As I inadvertently led you a merry dance it's only fair I do what I can to rectify the matter.

"question regarding ..." is an across clue in the NE, this should then lead you to where the "look over..." clue goes.

Again, sorry for the mix up.

... remember some cells contain 2 letters so you will not always be looking for clue numbers containing 9 cells.

Brendan: Er... thanks. I think. lol. Perhaps I'll put this on one side for a few days. Clearly I haven't found the instructions very opaque.

Thanks for the grid. Works a treat on my iPad. Made a start last week and laid it aside. Now back to hopefully complete with the help of a few clues on here. The grid saves the rubber on the end of my pencil for another puzzle.

One last question - does the solution to the "nonsense..." clue involve a feature of both trees and teeth?
