Thanks drxx, I now need one of each. I can't see the misprint (E) in 23a or solve 23d (which I assume is one of the ten), and struggling to identify "A". I'll keep going, but most of the misprints have been rather difficult to spot.

3rd word from the end in 23a (23d?).

Or was that a typo and it's 23a you haven't solved, gitto? (if so, does Pavlov ring any...?)

Sorry, I meant 26d. I know the misprint, but I don't know if the definition is 2 or 3 words.

Def is first two words (the next word is the anagrind).

Completely baffled by ALL parts of the end game - other by "B", who I hope sails on water.

Not sure how much you're missing, gitto (regarding ''all'', do you mean the whole of the endgame or a particular part of it?).

I mean everything, not all, as I know the latter is part of the endgame. It is "A", i think, that is holding me back.

If you have the name of 'B' you'll probably know about his mission and 'the six entrances' - have you looked at the last one?

All done, a couple of parsings still eluding me. Good puzzle with a red herring or two. Thanks to JFD.
