I thought this was delightful - not quite the hardest but testing enough and a skilful visual construction. I started gridfill unusually early (I tend to wait till I have 2/3 of clues solved) and was rewarded. Minor grumble that the 5 endgame steps would work more logically in the order 2/4/3/5/1.

Sorry but got to the party a little late. I have answers to all the clues and almost finished the puzzle. However I have no idea what (1) entails. When my Grammar School changed from woodwork to technical drawing I struggled.

I think I have the five specifications thus identifying the five pairs of columns but I cannot work out what comes next. I think I have the five pairs with touching letters of 4, 5, 2, and 6 but with the final pair (in columns 14 & 15) only having one touching letter. This doesn't seem right and I do not understand how many bars to insert in each column or where.

Any help, guidance, or nudge would be greatly appreciated.

I support other comments about the brilliance of the theme (if only I could finish it!).

The post - how the answers touch each other is not relevant, it is simply to find the gap between the columns.

The preamble states that bars go in two rows and it should complete the picture so…..

Thank you Candledave - your nudge much appreciated. I think I was looking for something much more complicated. The phrase "………" panicked me! All done now.

Amended by Admin to remove phrase, I am informed it is part of the end game
