Really enjoyable puzzle . I completed in record time and had the feeling it was set by someone other than the usual compiler, but am probably wrong.

jazzgirl - I agree. I always think of Everyman as being somewhere in between the Guardian's Cryptic and Quiptic in terms of difficulty. This was very much a write-in for me (apart from 22d which held me up for a few minutes). Last week's had a very different feel to it and was much more in keeping with a Cryptic. I wonder if there is more than one Everyman setter?

Like others, I struggled in the NE, LOIs were 3, 4, 5, 10. Was about to put it aside when I got 3, the others then followed quickly. Above average difficulty I thought, good fun though. Plenty of clues to enjoy, I’ll give my COD to 16. Thanks to Everyman.
Have a good day everyone.

Loved this Everyman, but stuck on my last one 5d. Any hints please?

Find a word that (loosely) means "intones", then swap a letter.

Hi Jules,

5d - take a word for "intones" or 'narrates' and change "time" to "playing initially" which will give you a word meaning "instructions".

Thanks Brendan; I think our posts crossed.

Like Geeker, I took a long time to see 10a, as I was looking for a word for lesson inside a word for specialist area, rather than a DD.

Spoiled for choice re CODs today, but agree with Brendan about 13d, and Dara (and others) about 15a. Also thought 16a very good.

Another enjoyable Everyman (even the anagrams) done over breakfast. LOIs all in the NE. Last LOI 16a after figuring out 5d. CODs include 5d and 13d. In 4d I was held up until I realised 'dash' could provide 4 letters to the solution not the 3 I initially believed. Another example of the richness and subtlety of language English provides, as noted in Brendan's first post today. Keep up the good work Everyman (whether there is more than one of you (male of female))!

I cannot see what the parsing of 1d is although the answer is obvious from the crossers. Any hints please?
