Re 7D: the utensil definition isn't in COD either. Interesting that Everyman has resorted to Collins to make a clue work. I was always under the impression that Chambers was the Bible for this crossword. Wasn't a hardback copy the prize back in the day?

The Rolling Stones used one .....
(to play an intro for their cover of Doc Pomus's song "Young Blood".)

So it was 'kept' by a "Stoner"

Hi Jazzgirl,

I think I can come up with an even more tenuous link ...

Rod Stewart played one on .........
while being accompanied by Ronnie Wood - a "stoner" ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿคช

Indeed Brendon, famously played on ToTP my John Peel (er). Which brings us to another kitchen implement!

Fun solve, SW held me up for a while, 16, 17 and 26. I didnโ€™t like 7 much, it gets the wooden spoon from me. Sorry. Actually, I think that jonoโ€™s parsing works well, so itโ€™s ok really.
I particularly liked 1d, 2, 4, 8. COD is the really neat 3 - elegant with a wonderful surface.
Thanks Everyman.
