Mooncow, the Inquisitor puzzle is a themed crossword, published in the weekend edition of the 'i' This week's puzzle was definitely tougher than the Listener. The puzzle is available online only to subscribers, the rest of us just buy the paper. I don't know if you know about Enigmatic Variations/EV? It's the Sunday Telegraph's themed puzzle and it often quite good.

Anyone know if it's possible/how to fax solutions to the Guardian? TIA

Mooncow, a small addendum to Malone’s excellent advice. The Sunday Telegraph Puzzles Supplement (including the EV) is available on the Press Reader App. Many local library services have Press Reader subscriptions which allow library members to access a huge range of newspapers and magazines online at no additional cost. I take a screenshot of the EV page of the Puzzles Supplement, edit it for size and print it. Much easier to use than the rather cramped grid in the paper!

I did wonder why the Grauniad was mentioned in the Listener thread! Post only for the Listener and to the remarkable man in St Albans who not only adjudicates but maintains and makes available meticulous records of solvers’ successes and failures.

Thanks JA - alas for those of us in distant lands this can significantly reduce solution time for a difficult puzzle, but never mind!

Many thanks, malone, jack — EV located with a wealth of other puzzles in ST on PressReader which is very handy (and free (to me) courtesy of the library). EV not quite on Listener level — 1601 certainly didn’t take long for the other shoe to drop — but similar idea and quite fun, and should help keep me occupied on easy-listening weeks :-) I presume ’i’ is not on PressReader, as could not find it :-( which means I’d have to know, in time to buy the actual paper, that the Listener wasn’t going to keep me occupied for the week, and certainly couldn’t find a way to get my hands on this week’s… I might grab a weekend ‘i’ sometime anyway just to see what it’s all about.

Could someone please put me out of my misery on the parsing for 26d? Buddy's post at 10 hasn't made it click for me.
