I feel that a puzzle that isn't fully parsed isn't really solved. So, spurred on by zabadak's post I went away and parsed 26d only to come back and find that others had posted. In the meantime. I also hadn't parsed 31 but now I have. But apart from the (I think) fairly obvious shading, I haven't yet got a clue about the rest of it.

Enlightenment will no doubt follow in the morning for tomorrow is, I'm told, another day.

I'm in the same place as will37. Got a fully parsed grid and the necessary shading (path) but I haven't got a clue what the bottom row is or the thematic object.

Think about the wording in the rubric!

I understand the cryptic first sentence of the rubric, and I now think that I have a solution ………

Gitto, do you really need to spell it out? πŸ˜‰

The first three letters of the item are superfluous, correct?

I think they might be but I am not sure I have the correct answer. I can find five letters that fulfil the instruction and give an item which sort of fits the theme. Its Wikipedia entry does not include the first three letters. If I Google the item and include the first three letters it leads to a modern phenomena which although related is not quite the same thing.
It feels like I am missing something.

I think if you were to ask for the item, or its whereabouts, in an appropriate location you might well use the first three letters. So I don’t regard them as superfluous.

I thought the instructions in the preamble were very clear. Insert ..... into the title. Doesn't really leave much to debate.

Although it wasn't particularly difficult, (a nice break from the latest two mind benders from Sabre and Jaques in the latest Magpie) I enjoyed this. Nice clueing and quite a fun end game. πŸ‘

as an undergraduate at Lancaster living in Morecambe I used to work in the arcades in the vacation, so this was nice reminder. Good to see easy clues after two terrible weeks.

Is what is to be written as item three words (3,4,6?) or am I missing something more complex.
