In the end the grid fill wasn't as tough as it appeared to be once a few long answers were in place. Can't make head or tail of the symmetry preamble though! I'll let it simmer for a while and come back to it. (I assume the symmetry is the grid rather than the letters entered? I have at least one letter that only appears once so I can't see that it can be to do with the letters).
Have cold solved just over half and got 2 of the 12 letter ones . To help please anyone - where do the down clues start ? I suppose if I know if the Tchaikovsky is a last across or an early down then that should start me off on the grid . Thanks
I popped in here to gauge if this would be worth the effort. drxx's post #4 has decided me against. I have more interesting fish to fry - big backlog of Magpie puzzles to tackle. Answer lengths would have tempted me.
Definitely worth pursuing. The symmetries can be seen post-solving.
The first across clue is pretty straightforward, and the piccolos clue and Tchaikovsky clue are also fairly easy, IMHO. Those three only fit together one way and you're off!
