gitto - if you have the right four words, it should come together quite quickly as the synonyms are pretty obvious

If I have chosen the right category it is the synonym for the second of the three remaining words that I am struggling with.

I'm in a mess with my jigsaw, can't fit a 7 letter down solution in anywhere. Can someone help with parsing of 11a, I have the definition as a word meaning greyness and it does contain an obscure 4 letter word for cows, but the remaining letters make no sense.

The first word in 11a is the definition.

lumen - check your positioning of your other 7 letter downs as I went wrong for a while as one of them can go in two spots

My problem concerns the final step, in that I cannot determine the site of the two gaps in the path through the 8th member.

Thanks ukridge. The shape I have in mind accords with the first five and last five of the 13 cells but the three in the middle do not !
