thanks jono
there seems to be a part of speech mismatch in 13d and 19a
20 won't work overseas!

19d was obvious from the crossers, but I had no idea of the parsing until I came here. An obscure “fights” around a really obscure “box”!

I completed this fairly quickly (for me), perhaps helped by the popularity of the boxes in London these days, and found it great fun. 17 and 19 seem unusually cryptic for an Everyman but it was 3 that held me up longest as I let myself be misdirected into a lengthy hunt for a homonym.

Good day everyone. First run through got me nowhere, looked like it was going to be tricky. But some long anagrams got me going. Unlike others got the box clue, helped by having been near to the location. Agree that 16a is not great. COD 24a, probably seem it before but thought it clever. As for next week. I hope there is someone in this forum called Kaye, so that we can say the puzzle is for her (groan).

I'm stuck on 3a, which is my last to go

14d I've heard of the port, but not the boxes

16a I thought 'consumed' as a containment indicator, not a deletion indicator, so I was mislaid at first. Just checked and my chambers only has the first specified

17a spoiler, but found a whole article on this!!

3a the audibly refers to an actual noise, not a homophone

Late to the party

One of the easier puzzles, apart from the parsing of 14d.
I ended up searching Chambers 12th where I found the box :).

14 — had to look it up in Chambers Complete Crossword lists.

Can anyone explain the Spoonerism?
Thanks.
