Simple enough until I got stumped by 14d and 16a

16a I am still not sure is a real word and as for 14d- who knew?

12 and 13-most ingenious!

I’m with you on 14. Must’ve taken me as long to get as all the others in total.

Also worth noting perhaps that next week will be # 4000. Should we expect something special?

Similar experience, ended up using a word finder to see what would fit in 14d.
I took the “Alan” in 16a to be an Everyman self-reference.
“At” in 13d seems to be there just for the surface, doesn’t really work for me.

Mprs, indeed, 4000! The current Everyman has made subtle references to milestones in the past - his 100th and 200th puzzles contain allusions to the fact.

Just did a quick look and 16a is a real word. Unlikely as it seems. Her in 5d has appeared in Everyman recently, I believe. No objection as I am a bit of a fan!

Failed on
3a -not sure I've ever encoutered that in the wild .
14d I thought that was a brand of tinned meat -didn't realise it existed as a place.
17a Got the last three letter but no idea where the first four come from
19a Too hard for me .

16a I got -just the first letter of Alan then a word meaning wider with a letter meaning nothing removed .

14A is a beast isn’t it? I have the only thing that really fits (SA port) but the parsing completely eludes me. Any hints?

14 is five letters ‘box’ (think Japanese food) inside five letters ‘fights’

16 ‘nothing consumed’ means take O away from a word for ‘increasingly wide’… this comes after the A
