Is that the order you found them in, bananbean? I have DI as a pair, not sure which is which. No ideas beyond that

Dylan - I’ll give a couple of hints

q gives you a minimum for T

c will then fix I which then gives you a likely answer for T

b should then give you a good guess at R

anyone else put out by the fact that the puzzle number (4764) breaks one of the rules of the puzzle!

Thanks candledave for your attempt to help me. My immediate thought is why you mention clue q, rather than p, as they seem to give similar information about T. I think I’m missing something!

you’re right, p would probably work just as well, it’s just that I started with q

In both cases, the answer has to be four digits which gives a minimum for T

Thought this was very good indeed. q held me up for a while as I kept calculating it wrong, but figured out my schoolboy error in the end.

To my great shame (Maths O-level and a degree) I just can't crack this. To avoid another day starting at an empty grid and a dozen filled A4 sheets would some kind person who has finished be willing to make contact so that I can see whether the 4 letters I think I have identified are correct. email me at mrbaddie - at - btinternet - dot - com and I will give you my 4 ideas. At least that way I might have a chance of AZ and EV tomorrow. I have never been this stuck with a numerical in decades.

As a longtime lurker may I ask a question? I have, I think, the digits of DURATIONS. Or at least, I have 20 “answers” to the clues which are unique four-digit integers and contain distinct nonzero digits. But while I can determine the G value from the BCEF value for each by inspection, I don’t know how to do it in reverse. Do I need to be able to do that? Has anyone solved this without a spreadsheet?
