CLUELESS 629

Welcome to Clueless, our informal weekly clue setting competition. The idea is to compose a cryptic clue to a given word or phrase. The winner of the previous week's competition both sets the word to be clued and judges the entries for the current week. The judge's decision is final and reasons may or may not be given at the judge's discretion. It is customary for the judge to donate a virtual prize to the winner.

Multiple entries may be submitted and new competitors are particularly welcome. Feel free to give an explanation if you think it might help. Clues should be submitted by 6:00 pm (UK time) on Wednesday the 3rd of May.

This week’s challenge was chosen by artificial intelligence.

The question I asked “ChatGBT” was…

“Please suggest a word for a crossword clue writing competition. The word should be a verb and a noun, it must have many possible definitions, and must be more than four characters in length”

… and ChatGBT’s response:-

“Certainly! How about “spark”?

As a verb, it means to produce a small flash or to ignite something, or to stimulate or initiate something. As a noun, it can refer to a small flash of light, a source of inspiration, or a person with a lively and dynamic personality.

There are also many other possible definitions and uses of the word "spark," such as in the context of chemistry, electricity, or emotion, making it a versatile and interesting choice for a crossword clue writing competition. Happy crossword puzzling!”

So there it is, thanks ChatGBT!

I’ll widen the choice somewhat to…

SPARK (5)
SPARKS (6)
SPARKLER (8)
or
SPARKIEST (9)

Have fun and good luck!
