Julesvern, 4 letters meaning sensible (or wise) wrapped 1,3 around 4 letters meaning a short amount (distance) of progess. Def is cutting-edge.

Miles off the pace today -never heard of 9d either the vegetable nor the gorge. Failed also on 13a, 21a , 7d and 17d.
Never heard of 11a and still can't parse 1a despite the many hints . Will wait for next weeks 225 explanation.
