This one was a write-in although I still cannot parse 1a. Such acontrast to yesterday’s Prize that I am still struggling with.

Hi Edc,

1a - this could be way off but I think it's ...

6 letter "perhaps Marilyn" (Google her name followed by your first word) + 3 letter "(her) sweetheart" (so an American spelling) goes around/'to take care of' single letter "a little rusty" - definition is "instrument"

Very convoluted for an Everyman clue - assuming I've parsed it correctly:-)

Agreed on Brendan's parsing of 1a, though frankly I don't know the personage / celebrity involved.

Pretty good puzzle, thanks to Everyman. Quick solve, but some clues had complex parsing and took significant thought.

FOI 1d, LOI 16.

Favo(u)rite clues 23, 9 and 21, though 3 must be praised for potential geek connection.

Thanks to edc for starting the thread. Apologies for a bit of pedantry: it took me a long time to become aware of the custom, but Everyman thread titles here dispense with the comma in the puzzle number. [Yes, I started at least one Everyman thread with a comma in the title...😳]

Thanks. I didn’t know the person and the US spelling of an abbreviation has passed me by. Sorry about the comma.

Agree with EdC, I wasn't familiar with the person referred to in 1a or the spelling of 20d. In 9d the second word parses perfectly but I have no idea how the first word works except that there is only one obvious word that matches the crossers. Rhyming pair, initials and spoonerism all present and correct with a palindrome for good measure. Thanks Everyman.

1a Marilyn is a writer rather than the more famous one, so a misdirect. I thought this was hard or at least convoluted. I’ve still to do 25a and 20d. Hints appreciated.

First word in 9d is 6 letters meaning gorges in the geographical features sense - think Isle of Wight - then the the usual 1 letter abbreviation for English. Hope that helps?

9d 6 letters for “gorges” - not in the eating sense.
3 letters “seafood” missing an “r”
4 letters “roll”, last letter missing

Justsolve, The first syllable of the first word of the answer to 9d is a word which means the same as the first word of the clue. It’s not a common word. I only know it in relation to the Isle of Wight.

Sorry sealionsteve, we crossed.
20d 3 letters = for 3 letters = model, for definition think of foreign “cheers”
