Thanks for the ice-melting hint, clarkgwent. Having got 25ac, 26d was suddenly obvious! Nice puzzle, Everyman, now finished.

This was a nice level for me today, hard enough to make me think, but I was still able to complete it without having to resort to help

I didn't spot the alliteration until too late, I always forget to check that

1a the second word confused me, it seems superfluous

Warden, are you sure you meant 1a, or was it a typo? It wouldn't make sense without the second word.

Hi, sorry I've been out all day so only just seen the post

I must be missing something on 1a? To me the 1st word is the Anagrind, and the 3rd, 5th and sixth words are the Anagrist. Why is the 2nd word 'in' essential, what am I missing here?

The 3d, 5th and 6th words in the clue total 4+4+7=15 =4+2+1+8 letters, so all are necessary.

Now I'm totally confused, isn't that what I just said? We need the 3rd, 5th and 6th words?

Warden, I agree, “in” is not the anagrind nor the anagrist, and as such isn’t required, especially as one might think of a “dancing club” as a thing (for the purposes of the surface reading I suppose)

Thanks Jono, that's how I thought it could work too

I'm glad I'm not going completely crazy:)

Ah, I see what you mean now Warden. But, 'dancing club' doesn't sound quite right - do people say that?? 'Dance club' would have given a better surface reading, but could 'dance' be an anagrist, or is the tense wrong??
