So my BRB has an event definition for this. I don't think that carries into the plural, these. The event, I think, is referring to making a statement such as "this is exciting". This is hard to extend to a statement about multiple events. The home counties part is a given, so I guess Kruger thought an obscure definition with an improbable pluralisation was needed to throw us off the scent! Enjoyable puzzle overall though.

yes - i cant see how it would be used in the plural. however the brb app shows that the plural of this is these, and lists all the defns inc the one kruger has used under the "this (plural = these)" headword. Therefore at least based on the app, its perfectly fair.
