Thanks Muraria
I've lectured on 32ac, but he didn't come up on my dictionary search- shows the danger of relying on that!
All done now

cheers

CD, Muraria -
the penultimate full word in the second revealed message seems to me to imply fairly clearly that that your X is not to be naked.
If so, the specification of the thing described by that word should involve a small number of cells - but nothing appears to be specified.

Anyone got any thoughts on this?

- Oops! - not the penultimate word - the word before that.

don’t follow quixote.

I have done the first three words of the instruction which then gives me the fifth word in which to place my X

46 hours ago I was clear in my mind what I ought to submit. But what has appeared here has opened up doubts. My interpretation of what to submit is guided by the word "replacement" in the Preamble. It doesn't say "addition" or similar. The title would seem to imply that X is all that is wanted: X and nothing else. But I'm no longer certain of this.

Finished this with some difficulty, particularly as I thought the song titles were a random selection of pop music. This is an alien world to me, although I do have some of the relevant albums on my shelves. It is years since I listened to them.

Actually I found the puzzle quite hard and I am still musing over some of the word play, though I am pretty sure I have all the right entries. I know exactly what X is and the instruction. On the other hand, there is some dispute about how to interpret this. It might well be another time when you have to guess what the setter is thinking. The first part of the instruction is something I do every week, so that does not mean a lot. The second part can be interpreted in many ways. What was it called all those years ago? - the hare, I think.

I have a full grid and pretty confident of the steps for the end game, however like others I am having difficulty parsing 32d. There's only one word which is a realistic candidate and the first half of it is parsable, but I can't rationalise the origin of the las two letters at all. It's not important because it doesn't impact on a submission, but it's quite frustrating! Can anyone help me understand it, please?
