Roof, 17d might be familiar from last week's Prize, namely 12a there...

Thanks to Brendan, Chrise and Mathetc

I've finished now. I did like 24ac once I got it. I was completely misled by 13d

A few comments. I've been familiar with 5ac since my second year in secondary school (some 60 years ago) when we did Australia, but I'd never heard that it had fruit. I know the word for pity (18ac) as it is my name. I wasn't happy with the clue for 20d and cannot parse 11ac and I'm not convinced by the parsing for 10d.

My FOI was 25ac thanks to the hints on the forum closely followed by 5ac and 14d (the latter from my husband). My LOI was 13d after getting the hint above and my COD was 18ac closely followed by 21ac and 16ac. But I did like 15ac.

As usual many thanks to you all for your help. I'll probably be cooking next week, so may not get started for a day or two after Christmas.

Hi Smot,

1d - 3 letter "tramp" followed by "tip of puzzle" - definition is "sign one's expecting".

11a - 5 letter "nonbeliever" with the middle letter altered/"change of heart" - definition is "hymn"

8d - first word is B(ritish) + 4 letter "responsibility"

Please excuse me if I've missed it but I cannot parse 1A. Def is 'seat'

Otherwise, with other help found in posts below, I'm OK with this one.
Actually surprised that I wasn't quite so flummoxed by Picaroon as I was last time.

Thanks.

Hi Jennaralissima,

I've copied and pasted this from one of my earlier posts ...

1a - 3 letter acronym for "going too far" (as in 'that's was too much') reversed/"westward" goes inside "small county" which is a contraction of an English county (like Herts for Hertfordshire) - definition is "seat".

Thanks, brendan. A bit of a tough parse, I'd say, since I've never actually heard any one actually say 'going to far' in that way before. Perhaps it's common in the UK?

I'm back from quite an emotional but very enjoyable family get together and therefore a little drunk. But I think this the best Prize for a long time. Thanks to Picaroon. I don't think I'm totally on the wavelength but every time I get a clue I'm impressed. Nowhere near finishing still and not likely to happen tonight but I thought Picaroon deserved some praise for this.
