Quite a challenge this month, presumably in recognition of the more leisurely timetable afforded by Christmas. While I have solved all the clues, fitted them in and can read the final instruction, I am not sure how to apply it. Any thoughts?

Are you sure you have the last word of the instruction? It affects two words.
I enjoyed this, but I think the preamble is inaccurate because the definition, rather than the wordplay, is affected at least once (and twice if a double definition is intended).

Agree drxx, instructions should read "Each clue......."

Enjoyed this. Solved first half dozen very quickly so I thought it would be straightforward. Wrong, it was an uphill struggle with the rest. Filled the grid, got the final instruction and was able to apply it successfully. My only problem is that my 9th letter of the instruction seems to be wrong. I've looked and looked at the clue it came from and it seems to be the only possibility but I think it should be another letter (I have the second of its kind but I think it should be the first, if you know what I mean). Can anyone suggest where I've gone wrong?

I think that the 9th letter of the instruction is the last letter of its originating clue

Thanks, BB. That's the letter I have but it doesn't see to make sense in the final instruction. I think it should be a letter 4 above in the alphabet.

Stupid me! It's the previous letter in the final instruction that I've got wrong. Sorry, folks!

Can anyone throw any light on the parsing of the Hot meal .. clue. I have removed a letter and have an answer which fits the three checking letters, assuming the definition is the final word. But how does the wordplay work?
