Really difficult crossword, about half way through. 14 & 24 across is a brilliant clue, the last word in the clue a pointer

Please can anyone confirm (or otherwise) my 3 crossers for 8d : T-G-N?

Those crossers for 8 are correct. Defn. is "figures" (plural n).

Well, that wasn't easy, felt a bit Captain Oates and a good few we can't parse.
FOI 4 (don't know what that says about Mrs Pauly, she got it as well as 2)
LOI 20 (if it's right - can't parse the first 3 letters and a new word on me)
COD 14, 24, no contest.

Hi Pauly, 20 is a three letter word for date inside a three letter word for dress (more usually it’s a plural)

8 is two letters ‘working’ inside four letters ‘calls’, all after a reversal of two letters ‘company’

Just had a dissonant moment when I misread the setter as 'Trump'.

When I got 4d straight away I thought what a weak clue and my hopes were not high. However only the NW completed and it's proving tough. Assuming the def of 5a is the first word, why can't I parse it at all. The sign part no problem but the rest?

Hi Rocky, 5a defn is the first two words. Van is the usual crossword meaning which provides one letter, and ‘way’ is a two letter abbreviation (reversed)
