Hi Minno,

10a - This is a tad unusual in that it's every third letter that is overlooked/'regularly lacking' and the more usual every second letter.

Sorry, meant -

"...rather than the usual every second letter"

Of course! I was being a bit too binary. Thanks Brendan.

And thanks Jono.

Just discovered the one per minute rule on posting. Good idea. They should apply similar rules elsewhere. One tweet per day, for instance.

Rather late to this one. I'm in Marseille and doing a lot of roaming so this came in a few sittings. I would say I probably found this harder than yesterday's prize and definitely not as straightforward as many on this forum. Took me quite a while to get a foot hold in this.

Once going though I thought it combined good and sometimes tricky clueing with all the usual Everyman traits. And I learned a new word in 12a purely because I knew it was the first letters clue.

Think I liked 27a best. Night all and have a good week.

All programmers who have ever tried machine code/assembly language know about 12A!

Also: Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain, My Very Excited Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas (not valid since they binned of Pluto) etc.

I'm stuck on 3D. There a word for "gather" that, when entered upwards, fits. However, the definition of the word when read downwards does not mean "rain, intensely" as far as I know, but it's almost close. Am I on the right track?

Hi Lexo,

3d - Yes, the answer means "to pour, fall in torrents" and when read upwards means "gather" as in "to come face to face with".

lexo, your solution seems correct to me. Online dictionaries seem to verify, but I don't have the Bible (Chambers) so can't say for sure.

Thanks. I just looked it up and it's a UK thing. In Canada we would only use that word as a synonym of "swarm".
