Hi Loubylou,
16d a children’s author requires a central letter to be removed to give the first 6 letters, then 2 letters for a hesitant expression.
26a parses 4 (having lost bronze) + 2 (a famous Farah).

Gosh, finished this one in record time (30 minutes).

Having trouble parsing 7D... maybe it's referring to a test card or something (there's more than 4 bars on one of those though).

Re 1d there is another form of winter transport that fits here, similar in design perhaps, but you will need the right one for the homophone to work.

Hi Paradigmshifter I think it is referring to bars on a mobile phone.

Yup that would be it ;) Not really a big fan of mobile phones, despite getting my internet via one at the moment!

I would have thought the bars refer to the battery life rather than what the clue is referring to! It was obvious because it was clearly the rhyming pair anyway.

Not on an iPhone, battery life is an image of a battery, this thing is definitely represented as bars

Good fun and harder than yesterday’s prize imo which seems the wrong way round. Some satisfying pdms such as 7d &17a.
