Lilith, it took a while for me to spot it even though I'd guessed where to look. Partly because I still don't understand quite how it's the 'origin of the ideal MD'.

Why 'origin'? Hmm. Maybe my understanding of the MD wordplay is incorrect, but I thought I'd got it.

Unlike Lilith I'm still in the dark with this last bit. I'm guessing that "appropriately placed" is probably in row 7 and centred on col 7, but I don't know whether I'm trying to find a phrase (as in filling the blocked-off cells) or just a 3-letter word. So more staring unless, after several days, someone is prepared to offer a hint.

Took me a while to see it but it's a single 11-letter word....

Cockie and granama, if I have it right (which is always a big if!) the “origin” of the ideal MD is a physical state taking in 3 entries in row 7. I think that Buddhists might be the most inclined to regard this as “the origin of the ideal MD”.

Meanwhile, I have just cracked the secret barred off cells. D’oh!! “Up and under” as whatsisname used to say!
