Hi lumen
32d is short two-letter Scots word for 'we' and four-letter colloquial word for food, all reversed
42d look up 'hank' and then replace 'in' with 'o'
24a relates to a famous sculptor

Thanks Muraria. Really helpful.
Finished grid and can see how theme works top and bottom. Just the middle (I guess) bit to find.
But the big word at bottom isn't actually in Chambers I think?
Also still don't see the phrase, I have seven corrected letters that dont spell anything and seem to have good definitions for all other clues!

Lumen, the big word is in Chambers. I think you have 4 misprints to find. A few of them took a while and with an inkling of what I needed to make sense of the phrase.
Struggling with the 'hard stare' phase trying to see what the 2 2 word things are that need completion. (Have to assume the 2 blanks are involved?).
Lots of little cryptic things going on. The phrase appears to relate to the title etc.

More staring later...

I must have something slighty wrong at bottom left then! I have a word that makes sense.
Both the two word hidden phrases are short, very common words.

Lumen, have a look at 36d. That's the one that held me up for a while. (35d also appeared to have 2 options at first).

Thanks, yes! Two errors in 35 and 36, last letters.
Hope you have filled your blank squares now.

Got them. 👍Took a while for the penny to drop having toyed with the higher one for some time.

Just the 3 letters to change.

Hello!

I have a full grid (well, apart from the two barred cells) but cannot figure out how the misprint in 44A works. I'm sure I have the right letter and word, but I'm sure they're not allowed to engage in kink or nick anything.

Also, stuck on the endgame. That line in the preamble about 'features to which they are idiomatically..." - does it mean I'm looking for a two-word phrase relating to each of the 4 unclued entries? I've been grid staring all morning and, appropriately, my mind is blank!

Thanks,
Suzannah x

I don't think there is a misprint in 44?
For the two word featues containing the blank squares, focus on one word in each case - with the other little word just required to make up a phrase.
