Glad you enjoyed it. More than a few of the setter names were unknown to me, but given the frequency with which she wins recent contests, no points for guessing who has the most clues in this puzzle. I think only long time participants would be able to take a guess at who is #2 however.

With over 1200 words in mattrom's word lists, there are quite a few more puzzles that might be created. If I ever decide I want to do that again I might try for a symmetrical grid.

I also had trouble with 23 and 30. Actually, still haven't parsed 30, although I believe I have the entry.

30 involves a homophone of a 17th century actress

…back in the 20th century “Killer” might properly be capitalised

As one who doesn’t participate in any of the aforementioned threads, I found it interesting to see what clues found favour. As for others, the SW corner was most troublesome. 23a the last in, and quite tricky. I echo Jono’s point about capitalisation. Many thanks, Buddy

With hindsight perhaps I should have done some light editing on the clues but I went for historical accuracy instead (translation: through sloth and indolence I just cut & pasted clues).

No apology needed, buddy. I think that was the right approach! It took me as long as this week’s Listener 🙈

Jono @13, thanks. I surmised it was something like that, but was not familiar with the specifics.

Buddy, “copy and paste” is a great skill and should never be underrated😘. Thank you very much for posting this Mid-Week Crossword, it has proved very popular.

Perhaps other Members could put their thinking caps on, it doesn’t need to be a full scale crossword such as Buddy offered.

Short and snappy quizzes always go well, perhaps have a look at Linkwords or something similar.

The New York Times offer some various mini puzzles, perhaps something along those lines? Just Google New York Times Mini Puzzles, scroll down and click on the grids part way down the page.

Just a few thoughts to get the ball rolling.
