27ac - 3 letters from the first word (those in prime positions) + 2 letter abbrev for 'before'.

Phew! The combination of tricky clues, unpredictable letter clashes, and bits of British geography and culture that were unfamiliar to this Canadian solver made this puzzle exceptionally difficult. But I gradually chipped away at it and, with the help of a little Google assistance, finally arrived at the very satisfying solution.

I thought this was a delightful puzzle. A little harsh, perhaps, to complain about duplication of a theme. It can easily take a year or more between submission of a puzzle and its appearance in The Times, so if another puzzle on the same theme appears elsewhere in the meantime, that isn´t the setter´s fault. And when a setter does come up with a theme that is unlikely to be duplicated, there are complaints about obscurity!!

Struggling with both parts of 4/33. By my count there are three clashes in the two entries. Any hints would be appreciated.

Foinaven, I have four clashes across both parts of 4/33 but I haven't finished yet so may be wrong.

I make it five clashes across the two parts. One of them contains clashes in every possible site.

Yes, I now have one of the answers. It did not occur to me that there could be so many clashes in one entry. I suspect I have miscounted clashes elsewhere.Thanks for the hint.
