after a headbanger from Harpo, a second under-an-hour solve! But very clever and quite satisfying ....

No problem, Buzzybee, I've joined the two together, your post is here

"This appeared quite late, so unable to get my usual 12 hour headstart. However, a fun solve with a novel (to me) theme."

Very clever and some neat clueing, the gimmick held out to the end which made it all the more satisfying. Thanks Pangakupa

I managed to get through it all (almost) and even got the theme before the end, but I cannot parse or solve 5D. I have F?R?A?A?H, but no word seems to fit, so have I got something wrong? Any hints? Thanks .

what you have is OK: ans.is an Irish county.

Your letters are correct, Pendragon. It's a proper noun (county), so doesn't come up in Chambers.

Good fun this month - and I also didn't get the theme until I had finished the clued solutions.

I agree with Prospero. All done with a cuppa but none the worse for that.
