Pretty easy again this week. Last one in was 5D. Which is not in Chambers online but is in other dictionaries.

Also had wrong last 4 letters for 4D for a while before I got 11A.

There's also a programming language (based on Pascal) mainly used by the US military named after 12D. I found the wordplay clear on that one, so was not hard to parse for me.

hi Pds
Chambers online has 5d as a verb 6 letters. Just add 's'

Yeah, I didn't notice it was listed as a verb. It was the only thing which fitted anyway. Quite a loose definition of "dashes off" though I think, but I got the idea behind it. Dashes off as in "hurriedly".

I had got 4d wrong so I now have 11a. But I think 12 is probably someone or thing I don't know because unless I have a sudden pdm the clues on here are not helping jog my grey matter.

And indeed I was right. After basically going through the parsing of 12 letter by letter I came by an answer that I googled and lo and behold there it was and I had never heard of it.

Although mostly quite easy I thought there were some clever definitions in this to attempt to throw you off course. Enjoyed it.

Well she's probably in the top 3 most famous women associated with Computer Programming ;)

The other 2 being Grace Hopper (COBOL) and Margaret Hamilton (wrote the software for the onboard computer for the Apollo missions).

What about Dame Vera Stephanie "Steve" Shirley ?

Started off writing code at the Post office in the 1950s and ended up founding the company that became Xansa

Well those are just the first 3 I thought of off the top of my head. I had to Google the Apollo software woman but I remember the pic with her standing next to the printout which was nearly as tall as her.

Grace Hopper (RIP) was obviously a legend despite the abomination that is COBOL ;)
