THE CLUES
Requests for help with clues should normally include the clue itself, number of letters in the answer, and details of any you already have. Any special instructions or added information should be given.
NB HINTS only should be given, no answers please.

THE THEME
Requests may be made here for GENTLE NUDGES towards the theme. Please do NOT reveal the theme under any circumstances.
Early finishes should avoid any allusions - light-hearted or otherwise - that may give away too much.

Remember, the Listener is a unique puzzle, so treat it with the respect it deserves.

Well Done SS. The last 2.5 lines of the instructions are beyond me I am sorry to say. Very enjoyable to that point though. Rugby calls..

I'm in the same boat Jordan. Very quick grid fill, have the extra letter word, have the thematic links between the extra words, not a clue what to do next. Hopefully inspiration strikes soon.

Almost a quick fill held up by a wrong (but plausible entry at 25a.
I can come up with quite a few "appropriate" symbols, from the theme link in the across clues to a theme link (many possibilities) for the down clues.
I'm not submitting, so I have contented myself with circles leaving the letters showing, which looks pretty enough for me.

Worth pursuing to the last step if possible.

Looking for letters to form a left-to-right phrase means that columns containing more than one example of the required letter generate a range of possibly valid solutions.

The pdm on working out which unique solution is correct is very satisfying indeed - thanks Karla.

This type of end game has been used before. The two words - seven letters across the grid and the title - together give a huge clue. Note that it would be good to think back to your childhood!

Mostly complete by bedtime Friday, and after a further worry at it in the early hours, a full grid and completely understood theme by getting-up time today - fastest ever for me!
What do I do for the rest of the week?

I'm still dithering over the two potentially "appropriate" symbols that Karla may be expecting us to use for the substitutions - and while I've no doubts about their definitions and answers, I still don't understand the wordplay for 18a and 8d.

Thanks Karla.
