No no no no Geeker, I promise I was not trying to shame you! I couldn't say too much because I didn't want to give away the theme but you can see why I thought you might appreciate it.

I actually created a real problem for myself by totally failing to realise that the ** that appears in the bottom left in literally ALL the online "pictures" is not actually in the bottom left!! My fault for being a moron - I did actually know it but it took me hours to realise why I was always one thematic pair short in the NW corner 🤣

Another pretty straightforward one, but I preferred this to last week’s for some reason.
I recall 26a appeared in a previous Everyman back in January, in the guise of a racehorse I believe which lead to some discussion at the time.
Cheers all

Hi Yevrah,

It's winter but it takes place indoors so I don't really know why it has to be? Actually, I've just checked on Google and it first appeared in the summer Olympics but, since 1924, it's been at the winter games.

It's 7 letter "judges" as a verb as in 'reckons' or 'works out' then a 4 letter "royal personage" around "at" from the clue.

Thanks and can now say that it's done. Good one this week. I do like 14d for a slightly different clue. Pretty obvious from these exchanges that LOI was 8d. FOI was 1a though I do appreciate the uncertainty perhaps over the first letter of the second word. COD for me (21d is close) is 27a having just had hip surgery with a brilliant 27a. Happy Easter for those for whom it matters.

Ouch! Hip surgery, sounds painful - glad you had a great 27a and hope you're on the mend soon Yevrah 👍

Not too bad today. I’m sure I’m missing the obvious, but could someone put me out of my misery and hint at parsing for 3d and 13a? I have both but can’t work out the details.

Hi Stargull,

3d - 4 letter "hosts" as in a large number + 4 letter "catch"

13a - 8 letter "doctor's note" with the first letter missing/unopened and replaced with D(utch).
