yes - it's what you might do when putting compost in a plant pot, for example

A fun puzzle, found it pretty easy though. FOI 1a, LOI 24a which held me up a little while. Enjoyed 18d and 19d but my COD is 4d cos it made me laugh.

Funny that warden said the first 3 letters of 24 is a word they'd never use, it came up yesterday as well in the clue for GARDEN.

This was harder than usual I thought, had to finish it off in the morning. Last 2 in 19D and 24.

5 letter newspaper + 4 letter word for "to press down", which was a new word to me.

If you put the last letter of the newspaper in front of the 4 letter press down word you also get a word which has a similar meaning.

Hi paradigmShifter

I'm afraid the crossword is my Sunday only indulgence, but once I retire I'll have more time, albeit with less money :)

Thanks Chrise, I was on the right track but for some reason I just didn't get the PDM, more coffee needed probably

Thanks paradigmshifter. I haven’t heard of the second word either. But always good to learn new ones!
