17a I’m guessing. Apparently you don’t pronounce the final letter, though I’ve heard it both ways

Got it - I've only ever heard it with the last letter pronounced but I clicked on the speaker icon in the Free Online Dictionary and it isn't pronounced in either American or British .

Got about 50% but totally stuck. If I could get
13d Husband skipping starter -extremely rich-is most wholesome, then I'd have the first letters for 17,20, and 23 a.
A hint would be appreciated

You need to adjust the punctuation
Husband
skipping starter, extremely rich (should be most rather than extremely, I think)
most wholesome

After a mostly quick one, I also struggled with 13 & 24. The first 3 letters of 24 isn't a word I'd ever use!

FOI 1a. For the COD I liked 12d because it sent me down several rabbit holes before I spotted the very simple answer

LOI 25a, which I have an answer for, but annoyingly for a 4 letter, word I can't parse. It seem there always has to be one I can't parse :))
