Chrisremo, glad that helped - I thought you probably had the correct answer, entry.

I think I've completed the puzzle, but I have one small doubt gnawing away at me...

In my completed grid, with all substitutions made, there is a single Down answer that does not appear in Chambers, but it does appear in the OED. Should this cause any concern? The preamble only references Chambers, but it does also offer the somewhat vaguer requirement that "the final grid contains all real words and phrases," with "real" possibly suggesting a bit more latitude.

As far as I can see, all my final down answers are in Chambers.

Proper nouns, names of places, people etc will often appear in the grid and won't necessarily appear in Chambers, but any 'ordinary' word will be in Chambers, the primary reference, or else there will be a specific mention of it and where it can be verified.

Like Gem94, I think all my final Down answers are in Chambers. In which row and column does your answer which isn’t begin?

I have a full grid apart from just the unch in 30d. I know the letter to be omitted but am still stumped. Could someone please provide a nudge so that I can put this puzzle to bed? Thanks!

Gazzar, re 30d. Def. is the first 3 words. Remove 1 letter (represented by 'roughly', but more usually 'about') from 'seafood dish'.

Gazzar, take the 'roughly' out of a six-letter fish dish to get a five-letter character.

Thanks mattrom and malone. Easy when you see it. I've never heard of that word.
