To recap, some of the words needed to solve this shocker are:

Vivaed.
Hierarch (never heard of this word with the 'y').
Oxyanions.
Stoa.
Ytterbium.
Faites vos jeux.

And ‘awa’ as a spelling of away, if I’ve got 46 correct - Island abroad where Scot’s entire family at home? (7)

Add in the need to know cricket fielding positions and you have a dreadful puzzle.
