Unless you have 2nd letter of 21A as an I, which is wrong as well. A squeeze of the sheepish variety for that one.

Oh right, I'd noticed that... but like Jono I didn't see how that related to "corners"

Ah, I see, thanks Culmer. I suspect this is chance, but I’m reminded of a puzzle where solutions in symmetrical grid positions were anagrams of each other. Was it a Brendan perhaps? Someone might know

As I say I have a first word with an e for 16d, but I can't parse it. The whole answer has two e's and fits perfectly with the crossers

If it was spelt with an i I could parse it, but as far as I'm aware it's spelt with an e

Vacuous tortoise + a 5 letter word "appeared" (perhaps as Dracula did from his grave?)

This is the Brendan puzzle I was thinking of (from 5 years ago!). It contains several pairs of answers in opposing grid positions which are anagrams of each other as well as other solutions which are ‘doubles’ - all alluded to by the theme solution MIXED DOUBLES. The blog doesn’t quite get there, so scroll down to post 15…

Ah thank you paradigmshifter, I had the right answer for 16d , but I had over complicated the parsing

A common mistake with me ;)
