Thanks, quisling, for your exposition of 16d (#30) - the only clue I couldn't parse.
I sailed through the puzzle right up to the last part of the endgame. Since this protest was a very long time ago, I could not recall the exact words used; I was working with the title of the Top 20 UK hit based on this incident which I could remember. Once I accessed YouTube, all became as crystal.
Thanks, Filbert, for an enjoyable, well-constructed puzzle. It would have been the cherry on the cake if the protester could have been included, appropriately placed on 9ac, 10ac in jumbled form - or a meltdown, so to speak!: more than half the necessary letters are already there.

Hi - this is my first post, but I've often relied on the regulars for hints and clarifications. A long overdue thank you!

I'm nearly there. I've replaced the thematic object (I hope I've done that ok?) and found the extra definitions.

But I can't understand 19ac. I have 3 letters out of 4 but don't get the definition. Any help appreciated!

Hi ABO,

19a - 3 letter "sheep" reversed/returning around single letter "with" - definition is a dialect/Norfolk word for "girl" (it's a very odd looking word)

Thanks - that's the wordplay I was going for but I could only see the Welsh definition in my Wiktionary!

Thanks Abo, as far as I can tell it's only in Chambers, at least with that definition.

If anyone’s still here, I did all this one and enjoyed it BUT although I got the three-word paraphrase by seeing what fitted I never figured out how the two thematic clues could have ‘guided’ me to this phrase — I can’t make anything from either of them! Could someone pls give me a hint/pointer?

Mooncow, the thematic clues are a list of definitions of the new words formed by the change to the paraphrase.

Oh! I see — they define the crossing words! Of course they do. All clear now. Many thanks.

Late to this after other duties over the weekend. Was going to skip it but the many compliments above changed my mind.
I can see the 9 letter entries are the key to starting the construction. To that end, a nudge for the very first clue Article to glotify hosts remains forgotten, without guile, would be appreciated. I assume the misprint is in the last word. I think I have the other 9s.
