That was a lot of fun - I was a fan of his when I was younger so remember the "protest" well.

Thanks to Filbert:-)

Got all of the "extra" definitions, misprints, the protest, the protester, the three word paraphrase, the thematically placed object and the justification. I cannot solve 1across and a gentle nudge for that would be welcomed.

Hi Gitto,

1a - Is a person's name - it's a subtractive anagram and definition is "toymaker"

Have a full grid and the first bit of the endgame done. Can't immediately see the second bit. Is the 'thematically located object under discussion' the thematic unclued answers or something else?

Thanks

Hard to explain without spoilers, but look for some words from the "dialogue" in the grid which needs one letter changing to read correctly. You'll see the thematic significance of that letter when you find it!

Quite gentle this week, for which I was grateful as solving had to be fitted round clearing out the attic. One box contained, among much else, my college gown - a full decade older than the protest! Thank you, Filbert; that was fun and not too taxing.

All done but a few queries on some wordplay if subtle nudges could be given please. For the Downs, in each case, I know the solution and where the correct letter goes.

20 - is there a definition or is it an &lit?

4d - can't see the wordplay

7d - can see parts of wordplay but not all of it

16d - ditto

Thanks

Smellyharry, two-letter abbreviation for quite quietly inside six-letter slang for sovereign
