This week's one might get a high number of entries. I'm usually finishing sometime late on Sunday but today's made the last post. Thank you Filbert

Thanks to all who replied - fully understand the position. Will swim down to Wells-next-the-sea (actually miles from the sea when the tides out) and buy the paper.

Thank you Filbert. Remember it well, highly entertaining. Pretty unique then, but regular occurrence now, sadly.

I hope it's not too early to make this appeal, but I've completed the puzzle and feel a bit unfulfilled. I know the 2 thematic entries, as they become obvious when the grid is filled, the misprint message is worked out and the title is understood. Ditto for the changes to the grid. I remain baffled by the reference in the preamble to my "two thematic across entries" having "lists of extra definitions". There doesn't appear to be any need to understand what this means in terms of completing the puzzle, but I would like to know what Filbert is driving at. Can anybody throw some light without giving the game away?

Hi Turast, it took some time for me to get this too, especially as it wasn’t necessary in order to fill the grid. The “lists of definitions” relate to the new words formed during one of your changes to the grid.

34d - Attend dance, possibly taking a Republican girl from the south (4)

My answer for this means "attend dance" parsed as single letter "republican" + 3 letter "girl" reversed/"from the south" - all exactly as the clue says! I know the correct letter but cannot see what word needs changing?

With reference to the discussion about the link being provided, I’ve always been surprised that those who want to start early don’t just buy the weekend online access to the Times. For about £3 a week, you get hard copy vouchers to buy the Saturday and Sunday papers, plus internet access, which gives you the crossword at 4pm on Fridays. I’m loath to sound like a salesman for Murdoch, but if we want the fun, it’s not too expensive to pay for it.
Sorry to sound also rather moralistic!

It's a very short word!

OMG! I actually considered that but dismissed it as being too judgemental, but I'd obviously not given enough weight to "possibly".

Many thanks Buzzb.

The entry for the answer in Chambers explicitly justifies the substitution.
