IIRC, the solution 12 has figured in quite a few crosswords of late, which seems weirdly anachronistic.

Yeah I mentioned I had seen 12A (or it's plural) before, at least 2 other times I think, so was a bit disappointed to have used the missing letter solver to get it :(

Google finds (via 225) 2 (of 12) from last November: Grauniad 28,598 and Everyman 3,919.

That means I may have got that one. Hurrah. Of course although I have finished the bottom half, most of the top half remains blank. Despite the hint for 6d earlier, I'm none the wiser. I don't do sport!

Please can I have a hint for 1d, 12ac and 10ac if it isn't indoor.

I have an answer for 2d, but can't parse the first word. Are my letters correct S?L?E?

I was talking about 9ac in response to Brendan's hint. But does it end with an s or a d?

6D has nothing to do with sport, and if what I have is correct (think so), it doesn't parse very well either :/

1D - (most letters of) provide a service + an anagram
12A - 4, 4 inside 3 letter abbrev for Germany
10A - last 4 letters as in "an opposing party"

2D the S and E are incorrect, so 1A is wrong
1A: Nicks is the definition and it is referring to places
