If you look up Celtic in Chambers, the last entry gives you two possibilities. It's the second of these.

I got a full grid without too much kerfuffle and eventually sorted out the letters/6 words (I think!) but have struggled with what I think must be the fourth and sixth synonyms. I can see a couple of candidates but can't really see them as synonyms unless the fourth is related to where people might use a punt and the sixth is to chat rather than question.

(I may, of course, have the wrong words that I'm looking for synonyms for but they do include the full set - the 'sentence' isn't really grammatically a sentence).

Hints appreciated.

Granama, look up the fourth word of the sentence in Chambers and pay heed to the first few words of the definition. You'll find a similar word in the grid. The last word in the sentence, as a verb, is defined in Chambers in a way that fits what you've found.

Thanks Loge, that's the 6th sorted. I'm now questioning my 3rd! (Problems making everything add up to 36).

Hurrah! (I had a letter in 29a incorrectly, but still making a word in Chambers...it makes much better sense now 😊).

Well the endgame has me completely flummoxed!

I understand from Quisling@2 that it is a pangram, but between not being able to parse extra words in a few clues and not seeing relevant letters in others I am going batty!

For example, the first six rows, if I have the correct words, are 1, (cannot parse), 2, particle, 3, theory, 4, word, 5, pen, 6, ring. Apart from 6 giving possibly 'O' I am at a loss.

Is there a source that will help me out with these and the rest?

Tomsdad, you’re looking at alternate rows. And as far as the pangram is concerned, you’re seeking perfection. The earlier link is instructive in that regard

Thanks quisling. I now see from your link the pangram and the synomyms, but there is still no way I can see the pangram spelled out in single letters associated with the extra words. I cannot even see which letters are "primarily associated" with the words!

Loge@11 pointed to the Q being from 27d, but that is in column 3 and there are 10 columns after it, and in the pangram the Q is fourth letter from the end, so how does the preamble "in row then column order" spelling the sentence work?
